I used to bear grudges. Well actually I bore them, fed them and lovingly watched them grow but these days I generally can’t be bothered. I am, however, annoyed with myself for not having had a decent pop at Princess Cruises when we got back from our last holiday.
It wasn’t the fact that they gave Janet Norovirus. The virus is endemic on cruise ships and if the cruise lines could get rid of it they would. What really road tested my blood pressure tablets was the scripted way that the crew, from the Captain down, spun the truth about the outbreak. I’m sure they didn’t actually believe that they were battling valiantly to save their spotless ship from disease ridden passengers but that didn’t matter. They had a strategy honed by corporate lawyers and it was obvious that any crew departing from that strategy would be departing from the ship at the next port of call.
Anyway, we are now back with Fred Olsen on the Braemar where small is beautiful and where they still say sorry if they make you ill. Nevertheless, it can’t harm to take a few precautions –
